How New York paycheck taxes work
New York uses its own income tax brackets. Every New York employee still pays federal income tax on income above the $16,100 standard deduction (single), 6.2% Social Security up to $184,500, and 1.45% Medicare on all wages. 2026 rates and standard deductions taken from Form IT-2105-I (2026), New York's own 2026 estimated tax instructions. These reflect the rate reductions enacted by Chapter 59 of the Laws of 2025 — the lowest four brackets fall to 3.90%, 4.40%, 5.15% and 5.40%. The supplemental tax computation worksheets that recapture the benefit of the lower brackets above $107,650 of New York AGI are not modelled, so the figure is slightly low above that income. NYC and Yonkers local taxes are not modelled.
