How Louisiana paycheck taxes work
Louisiana taxes wages at a flat 3.00% on income above a $12,500 state standard deduction. Every Louisiana employee still pays federal income tax on income above the $16,100 standard deduction (single), 6.2% Social Security up to $184,500, and 1.45% Medicare on all wages. RATE CONFIRMED: a flat 3% for taxable periods beginning on or after 1 January 2025, with the graduated brackets repealed — language that covers 2026. DEDUCTION NOT CONFIRMED, which is why this stays pending. The combined personal exemption and standard deduction does differ by filing status and is modelled that way here: $12,500 for single and married filing separately, and double that for married filing jointly, qualifying surviving spouse and head of household, so joint filers are not being given the single amount. Those figures are the 2025 base, they are adjusted for CPI annually, and the 2026 amounts could not be read: revenue.louisiana.gov returns 403 to this machine and legis.la.gov does not resolve from it. The tax is therefore slightly overstated.
